147 - Honestly, it's AI-out of control ๐ค๐ฎ
Hey there, !
If you've been following along in the ๐ Adventures on the Information Super-Highway I've been tracking some of the new and improved changes to DALL-E, and the other 'put in a random prompt and generate pictures' AI tools.
The tool that people are using that you may have seen online are from DALL-E Mini - a slightly shorter, sanitised version of DALL-E that can be used by the public. Certain features (like faces) have been deliberately obscured, but I've heard that the commercial version is pretty LIT (which is both fascinating but also very scary).
Thought it would be interesting to share some of the things I've been collecting on Twitter that I've seen - and most of these are from the wonderful twitter feed 'Weird Dall-E Generations':
Dumpster fire painted by Monet:
Stephen Hawking skydiving - fisheye lens:
SpaceX launching a Jesus Christ cross:
Greek Philosophers playing Jenga:
Nuclear explosion broccoli:
Demogorgon as a guest star on Friends:
Cookie Monster guillotine:

Thor: Love and Thunder - it was good, it was funny, it was Taika turned up to 11. I loved the comedy aspects of this, but I really wanted more in terms of the slow moments or the character revealing moments that help bring more connection to the characters. There were some great laugh out loud moments, and I still enjoyed it overall, but it's difficult to care about certain characters when there's not enough time to work through their challenges and growth. Still, a recommend!

Dune Messiah - I'm doing a re-read of the saner parts of the series, and this is the direct sequel to Dune. Spoiler-free review - it introduces a whole lot more about the lore of Dune (the Guild, the Tleilaxu and the schemings / politicking / machinations) which make it intriguing and wonderful to read. If you enjoyed Dune, keep going!

The Fear of Beginning Again - how do you know when the best time is to be a Beginner again? How can you make sure you keep the passion of your interest even while the 'suck' gap exists (where you know you suck, but you can't fully fix it yet)? Gave me a lot to think about - hope it does for you too :)

The Trolley Problem - but a little absurd. Your best friend? Or the Mona Lisa? Kill one person now, or 5 people in 10 years time? Fun scenarios to think through :D

The 2022 Lyttle Lytton Contest - can't remember how I stumbled on this but it's an annual competition about coming up with the worst first sentence of a book.
Jason and Laura may have loved each other, but they were as sharply different as Pacific and Atlantic.
The doors of my heart were as closed as those of the Capitol, that morning of January 6th.
Her face struck me like a baseball bat, kneecapping my heart.
โSchlormpโ went the knife as she plunged it into my heart, breaking it not only physically, but also emotionally, since I loved her.
