I was coming here to send you a reminder about our March 28th event: Looking Through the Looking Glass: A Meta-Experience of Meta and to tell you about one of the digital hygiene practices we’d be doing.

Well, too late.

The activity was going to be a quick walkthrough to set up your Instagram dm’s to be end to end encrypted. Without end to end encryption, the content of all of your direct messages is visible to Meta employees, AI datasets, sold to third parties, used to refine your algorithmic feed, handed over to law enforcement, and more... Meta finally introduced end to end encryption a couple years ago after getting in trouble for not having it - and then in true Meta fashion, made it convoluted to set up instead of enabling it by default.

Of course now they’re getting rid of it due to ‘low adoption’. Hmm.

We’ll talk more about this on the 28th, and I’ll come up with some more digital hygiene practices for us. :)
