Temper - Picture Lock & Sound Design
Picture Lock
Animation is fully complete! I have spent the last few weeks polishing up final little details and re-rendering bits and now I think its done!

I made each shot (for the most part) in its own unique After Effects file for “simplicity”. So in order to update a shot now that we are in final stages, I:
Render out a ProResHQ Quicktime version of the shot out of After Effects
Refresh the shot’s file (usually automatic) in the Premiere edit
Export a new ProResHQ of the whole timeline
Bring that render into an After Effects file that upscales to 4k and adds all the boils and other post effects (wiggly edges on art, color distortion on the edges etc)
Render 4k ProResHQ of this post-processed version (this is the only render that takes a long time)
Relink (usually automatic) this 4k file in Davinci Resolve for sound design
Render out 2 FINAL ProResHQs for both Stereo and 5.1 surround (!)
Whew.
There’s certainly better ways to do all this but after working on something for almost 12 years things have gotten a little wonky near the end. Now that I’m more comfortable in Resolve, I could probably switch to that for edit, post-process and sound design in a single file. I’m not gonna try anything like that at this point though.
Sound Design
I watched a Youtube video on how to create a fake 5.1 surround mix from 2 channel sources in Resolve and I am trying now to get it to sound as good as I can. I might have to get some help though. I’m running it through the surround sound I have installed in my home theater set up, which is cool but I’m not hearing the amount of separation I would like.
So that’s where Temper is now. I need to research festivals and figure out where I’m going to submit. Hopefully this things out in the world early next year!
Other Stuff
I’ve been having a lot of fun building a sort of cringe-y page on my personal site. I thought it’d be nice to have all the (personal) creative stuff I’ve done from like 2000 to today that I feel is worth remembering up on a public page on my site. It’s been a little emotionally overwhelming but healthy I think too to dig through all this old stuff. Turns out I somehow kept everything!
