It has been a very productive hiatus, full of personal ups and downs and the customary growth that comes with it.

And that growth led me to a few important realisations: juggling day job and content for two blogs is not as easy as I thought, and I don’t think GLS, in its current form, is the best I can offer you.

I’ll still need a little bit more time (and input!) to figure out how to make GLS better, but, starting with this issue, the newsletter will expand to include content I usually publish on ValeriaVG.dev in addition to content from GreatLittle.Software, and will be renamed to ValeriaVG to reflect that.

Over the summer I’ve been focusing on finding my footing in the AI vs Human software development. What started as an essay on Overcomplication, continued into Survival Guide on Agentic Development with the core idea that AI only makes sense where it works for you and eventually turned into Agile AI Development Lifecycle in an attempt to ground both AI hype and AI hatred and offer an alternative.

Not so long ago I was telling my manager that I don’t want to have AI anywhere near my title and now I believe that if I sit this fight out we’ll collectively fall to whichever side is louder.

With that said, I still believe in the art of Software Development. And that it is, undoubtedly, a reflection of the artist who develops that software. I don’t care what pan, knife or recipe the chef used in their kitchen, as long as their dish was made with love and care for whoever it was made for.

And for your input, if you’re up for it, send me a message or just reply to this email with something like: “When I read _____, I felt ____, I wish ____”.

That would help me greatly, especially if you strongly disagree with my stance!
