Hey it’s Val!
Just dropping by to say thanks for all the amazing feedback about my distinction without a difference article. I was truly blown away by the response.
I modelled it on John Saito’s seminal Is this my interface or yours? blog post, which I revisit whenever I need to decide between using ‘my’ or ‘your’ somewhere in Canva.
Please check it out if you’ve never read it! It is pure evergreen excellence.
(I even stole one of the graphics for my LinkedIn profile cover sorry John stolen valour)
Baby’s first podcast
Last time I visited Canva’s Sydney HQ, I was interviewed by my design lead Sally Woellner for our Design Surfaces podcast.
That episode dropped a few days ago, so please check it out if you enjoy pods as much as I do!

We had a great time nerding out about language, words, AI, Shakespeare, and going deep into things like naming products and information compression.
It also has the distinction of being the longest Design Surfaces episode so far, which either means we covered a lot of cool topics or I’m a rambly chatterbox who is too hard to edit down 🙊
That’s all for now. I’m working on more content design blog posts, but they’ll take a little while as Canva Create 2024 is just around the corner and taking up most of my idle thinking time. There’s only so many epiphanies you can attempt to manifest while on a walk or in the shower and right now it’s all work work work work work.
Bye!
Your pal Val
