I came across the above tweet and couldn’t help nodding along. This has made me reflect on my relationship with writing and why I fell in love with it in the very beginning.

Writing is my friend

I was a quiet kid who has grown into a quiet adult. Speaking has never been my strongest strength, but writing has always been my true friend. There's something magical about pen and paper (or now keyboard and screen) that listens without judgment. Writing gives me space to be heard in a way that conversation (with people) sometimes doesn't.

Writing isn't only about putting words out but also my honest friend whom I can share anything with.

The thinking-writing loop ⭕

The more I write, the more I think. Writing helps me think better. And better thinking means better writing.

When I construct sentences, I'm not just arranging words; I'm organizing thoughts, clarifying ideas, and discovering new connections. The process forces me to:

• Choose words with intention
• Consider how to convey complex ideas
• Structure thoughts in a logical flow
• Refine my thinking through revision

Most importantly, it’s fun! 🤩 (So why would I let AI steal the fun?)

To write is to stay with words

Yes, writing is my job. But reducing it to just a professional skill or income source would be missing the point entirely.

Writing is how I stay with words. I genuinely enjoy the construction process: the careful selection of each term, the crafting of sentences, and the building of paragraphs.

The AI temptation (and why I resist)

The idea of outsourcing writing to AI is tempting. It would be faster. Probably more efficient in many ways. But I can't bring myself to do it completely.

Don’t get me wrong. I'm not against the use of AI. In fact, I use AI a lot in writing. But in certain stages, I prefer to close the chat window and refuse to have anything between me and my screen.

Why? Because I don't want to be outsourcing something I genuinely love. It would be like asking someone else to eat my favorite meal for me or listen to my favorite song on my behalf. I'd miss the experience that brings me joy.

So while AI helps me brainstorm or edit, the core writing process remains mine. Because for me, writing is more than just the destination. It's the journey that I truly enjoy!
