Guten Morgen,
der heutige Newsletter kommt mit etwas Verspätung. In Berlin war nämlich gestern Feiertag - anlässlich von 80 Jahre Befreiung und Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Und dann wollte ich heute ganz früh erstmal schnell den Newsletter finalisieren und rausschicken, musste mich aber erstmal mit der Reparatur einer Videowall beschäftigen. Die immer ging - und dann plötzlich nicht mehr. Weil im selbstgeschriebenen Code die Zeile “socket.create_connection(("1.1.1.1", 53))” vermutlich durch neue Firewall-Regeln ausgebremst wurde. Was man halt so macht.
Und weil wir ohnehin so spät dran sind, geht es jetzt gleich los mit den 10+ analogen Absonderlichkeiten und digitalen Disruptionen dieser Woche.

You Sent the Message. But Did You Write It?: Wenn in die Konversation zwischen Menschen immer öfter eine KI reingrätscht, dann stellen sich Fragen: “It’s not just the style of communication that’s changed. It’s the sense of authorship. The idea that you can read something and know who wrote it—and whether they meant it—feels like it’s breaking down.” Und dann brauchen wir neue Begriffe. In dem Text gibt es gleich 10, von “chatjacked” über “praste” bis zu “GPTune” and “syntherity”.
Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests: Ok, die Studie bezieht sich auf 2023 und 2024 und bei KI geht es ja rasant voran - wie auch eine aktuelle Bitkom-Studie zeigt -, aber die Ergebnisse sind trotztdem interessant: “Despite finding widespread and often employer-encouraged adoption of these tools, the study concluded that "AI chatbots have had no significant impact on earnings or recorded hours in any occupation" during the period studied.” Vor allem, dass KI halt nicht nur Arbeit abnimmt, sondern auch neue macht: “The study revealed that AI chatbots actually created new job tasks for 8.4 percent of workers, including some who did not use the tools themselves, offsetting potential time savings. For example, many teachers now spend time detecting whether students use ChatGPT for homework, while other workers review AI output quality or attempt to craft effective prompts.”
Chinese robot does job of three to four humans installing thousands of panels at Australian solar project: Vielleicht kommt es eben doch darauf an, an welcher Stelle man KI nutzt, um echte Arbeitszeitersparnis zu bekommen? “A Chinese tech company says it has completed its first solar module mounting contract with an AI-controlled robot in Australia, helping to carve 25 per cent off the project delivery time, and doing the job of three to four humans.”
Duolingo will replace contract workers with AI: Auf der anderen Seite gibt es unzweifelhaft Jobs, die von KI übernommen werden. “Duolingo will “gradually stop using contractors to do work that AI can handle,” according to an all-hands email sent by cofounder and CEO Luis von Ahn announcing that the company will be “AI-first.”” Allerdings geht es nicht nur darum, irgendwas billiger zu machen, sondern auch um… mehr: “Without AI, it would take us decades to scale our content to more learners.”
The first driverless semis have started running regular longhaul routes: Autonomes Fahren war ja mal der ganz heiße Scheiß, inzwischen läuft das Thema häufig ein bisschen unter dem Radar. Aber vielleicht kommt der Durchbruch ja auch nicht mit dem Robotaxi oder dem eigenen autonomen Auto, das morgens selbst aus der Garage kommt: “Driverless trucks are officially running their first regular long-haul routes, making roundtrips between Dallas and Houston. On Thursday, autonomous trucking firm Aurora announced it launched commercial service in Texas under its first customers, Uber Freight and Hirschbach Motor Lines, which delivers time- and temperature-sensitive freight. “
Hugging Face releases a 3D-printed robotic arm starting at $100: Wer schon immer mal eine eigene Fabrikationsanlage in Wohn- oder Arbeitszimmer aufbauen wollte, hier kommt die Chance: “Hugging Face, the startup best known for the AI developer platform of the same name, is selling a programmable, 3D-printable robotic arm that can pick up and place objects and perform a few other basic chores.” Vielleicht der nächste große Trend nach Homeoffice: Microindustry?
We finally know a little more about Amazon’s super-secret satellites: Ein bisschen an mir vorbeigegangen, dass Amazon mit der Starlink-Konkurrenz jetzt ernst macht und die ersten Satelliten im Orbit hat: “The first production satellites for Amazon's Kuiper broadband network launched earlier this week, but if you tuned in to the mission's official livestream, the truncated coverage had the feel of a spy satellite launch.”

Huawei unveils first laptop running self-developed HarmonyOS as Windows licence expires: Freiwillig wäre wahrscheinlich kaum ein Unternehmen auf die Idee gekommen, ein eigenes Smartphone- oder auch PC-Betriebssystem zu entwickeln. Aber wenn einen die USA dazu zwingen, dann macht Huawei das halt: “Huawei Technologies on Thursday unveiled its first laptop that runs the company’s self-developed operating system, HarmonyOS, following the expiration of its Microsoft Windows licence for personal computers (PCs) in March.
Stacked with artificial intelligence (AI) features, the laptop, which has not yet been named, operates HarmonyOS 5, also referred to as HarmonyOS Next, the latest iteration of the system. Most Huawei laptops in the market currently run Windows, although some models offer the option to use open-source Linux.” Ob das in Europa so große Chancen hat, wage ich zu bezweifeln, und ob es eine Blaupause sein kann, statt US-Software auf China-Software zu setzen, auch. Aber es zeigt, dass digitale Souveränität vielleicht spätestens dann geht, wenn man dazu gezwungen wird.UAE to teach its children AI: Während wir uns hierzulande ja eher so mit der Frage beschäftigen, ob Smartphone-Verbot in der Schule ja oder nein oder ob KI-Schummelei die Hausaufgaben nicht noch ungerechter macht, gehen andere Länder andere Wege, was digitale Technologien angeht: “The United Arab Emirates looks set to integrating AI education in its schools’ curricula, meaning all children from kindergarten to high school will learn about the technology, how it can be used day-to-day, and the best ways to implement the various types of models. Und zuletzt...
Manchmal hofft man, dass irgendwer aus der Kulisse kommt und einfach nur sagt: “Sorry Leute, es war alles ein Scherz und der ist ein bisschen aus dem Ruder gelaufen, aber mal ehrlich, wir hätten ja auch nicht geglaubt, dass ihr den und seine Gang echt zweimal zum Präsidenten macht…” In meiner Jugend galt Ronald Reagan, ein Ex-Cowboy-Schauspieler als die Präsidenten-Lachnummer schlechthin, aber gegen das heutige Politik-Personal ist der Mann ja wirklich ein Vollprofi und Vollblutstaatsmann gewesen. Oder hätte irgendwer es für möglich gehalten, dass der offizielle Weiße-Haus-Account mal sowas Prä-Pubertäres in die Welt rausbläst? Und dann auch noch bei aller “hach sind wir lustig und nerdig”-Attitüde das mit den Farben der Lichtschwerter nicht auf die Kette kriegt? Blau, das sind die Guten. Blau!
