Trump Ordered UFO Files Released. Where are they? | Week of Mar 12

UAP Intel Weekly Rundown

The disclosure clock is ticking | Week of Mar 12

This Week's Lead Story

Pentagon Still Sitting on UFO Files Three Weeks After Trump's Order

On February 19, President Trump directed the Pentagon and other federal agencies to begin identifying and releasing government files related to UFOs and "alien and extraterrestrial life." Three weeks later, not a single record has been made public.

According to reporting from CNN and Washington Today, the review process is moving at a glacial pace. Interagency meetings have begun, but officials say the process of declassifying sensitive materials tied to UAP — including photographs and reports — is complex and could take months. Trump hasn't offered a timeline since signing the directive.

Transparency advocates are cautiously optimistic but wary. DefenseScoop noted that while the presidential endorsement is significant, the institutional friction around declassifying SAP-adjacent materials remains the core obstacle — as it has been for years.

Quick Hits

  • GOVERNMENT: Hegseth reaffirmed Trump's disclosure commitment in late February, citing AARO's caseload now exceeding 2,000 reports — up from 1,600 last year. (DefenseScoop)
  • MEDIA: Obama's offhand podcast comment — "They're real but I haven't seen them" — went viral in late February and is widely credited as the trigger for Trump's disclosure order. Obama later walked it back, saying he was referring to the statistical probability of extraterrestrial life. (NPR)
  • CONGRESSIONAL: The House Oversight Task Force on UAP Transparency is planning hearings in the coming months; Rep. Burlison has expressed frustration that potential witnesses remain reluctant to come forward. (Oversight.gov)

Legislative Watch

Two bills are moving through the 119th Congress:

Bills to Track: - H.R. 1187 – UAP Transparency Act — Would require the President to direct agencies to declassify UAP-related documents within 270 days of enactment. Currently in committee. (Congress.gov) - FY2026 NDAA (Enacted) — Mandates AARO brief Congress on the number, location, and nature of any UAP intercepts conducted by NORTHCOM and NORAD. (DefenseScoop)

Coming Up

What to watch for next week: - Any official release or announcement from DOD/AARO regarding the Trump disclosure directive — the White House has yet to set a public timeline - House Oversight Task Force may announce witness lineup for upcoming hearings - AARO's overdue 2025 Annual Report to Congress — last annual report was released in November 2024

From the Archives

Trump's February 19 order echoes Executive Order 13526 (Obama, 2009), which established the current framework for classifying and declassifying national security information — the same framework that UAP disclosure advocates argue has been used to keep UAP programs off the books for decades.

Note

Obviously, a lot has happened in the past 3 weeks (certainly this last one), and it's sometimes difficult to stay focused on the latest UAP developments.

But it's important to keep in mind that the disclosure clock is ticking.

Trump wants this information released. The institutions that hold it have their own timeline. We'll be watching which one wins.
