(IN)TANGIBLE_2025mar14 :: new practice new newsletter
Hi, I'm Tyler. Remember me? MacroParentheticals email, Sunday mornings, etc etc? Pleased to see that so many of you are still here!
With (re)Introductions out of the way, welcome (back) to the first installment of (IN)TANGIBLE, where my creative practice of words, pictures, words and pictures, and scrap metal concoctions intertwine.
We're meeting anew at the freest I've felt in more than a quarter century in the arts, the freest from guilt I've ever felt, the most able to lose myself in the process, in the sparks – creative and literal – for an afternoon or a day I've experienced.
New practice, new newsletter.
The above was my effort at a comics page in scrap metal. Will explore it more, already have some ideas for the next one. But, now: from a garage door wheel, a vent, a sliver of sheet metal, multiple pipe caps, and a therapeutic need to make something fun, Giuseppe:
From the detritus of learning to bend pipe (a torn out shower and a bit of chainlink), a door lock, and a boat anchor found along the road:
And finally, from a hoe head, multiple pipe caps, a bit of chainlink fencing, a few pieces of reel mower, and a garage door spring, Sergio:
My naming practices are simple: I imagine the creation falling and name them the first name I shout out before they hit the imagined floor.
First effort at a garden creature for K (from a horrific chair) is painted in black, waiting for her hand to add said whimsy. I'm already backed up on commissions from friends and family – an end table, an "abstract creature thing," a license plate thing. Current charging model is a "pay what you want" one, though I've little interest in turning it into a business. Sort of treating all of it like cooking: if you like a meal I've prepared, I'll make it for you again, though it'll be slightly different each time because I get bored otherwise.
Digital approximations of all metal experiments and tinkerings live here: metalwork
Words will ensue here sooner or later. Probably sooner. Or later. I really don't know – though I do have some words and combinations of words forming. Oh, here's a painting I did awhile back or a few weeks ago IDK that I really liked:
When words do, indeed, ensue I'll send another dispatch – though bear in mind that there's no set schedule for this letter, no artificial deadlines, no form, no anything. Whatever comes out comes out whenever it comes out however it comes out.
Welcome to (IN)TANGIBLE. See you soon.
