Your Dames' Favorite Things
Hello, Subscribers of Dames Nation!
Tonight, Your Dames are sending out our last email of the year, and it is going to be a premium issue. In it, we’ll be writing up some of the best new art-culture-knick knacks-podcasts-etc. that we learned about from one another and we have a feeling it will be a lovely issue! If you’d like to receive it, then it’s the perfect moment to upgrade:
In the meantime, we thought we’d each highlight a guest issue by a pair of editors the other introduced us to, in hopes that you all would enjoy revisiting some of the best of our year in #content.
Dame Margaret’s Favorite Guest Issue from Dame Sophie-Discovered Editors: This year, I think I have to give this honor to Your Joy Quotient Should Only Go In One Direction from guest editors Cassie and Candice, founders of the Adult Fans of One Direction Tumblr, and cherished pals of Dame Sophie whom Dame Margaret has giddily embraced. Their issue included thoughts on cake, skin care, Samin Nosrat, wonderful sitcoms that left us too soon, and, of course, the various scamps of One Direction. It felt so wonderful to be invited into Cassie and Candice’s friendship, and to share them with you.
Dame Sophie’s Favorite Guest Issue from Dame Margaret-Discovered Editors: Incisive & witty cousins Cate Young and Ianthe Metzger brought us Broads On Board, featuring their individual and collective reflections on TV (note to self: finish the first season of Gentleman Jack!); the complexities of DNA testing, particularly as it relates to the surveillance state and solving cold cases; women in politics (are you a woman? If so, run for something, please, you are far more capable than you think); and Cate’s sterling work in Jezebel. Cate has long been a favorite follow on Twitter and I loved getting to know her better & being introduced to Ianthe.
