Tris Talks... May Newsletter!
As you already know, I was in Baltimore at Balticon on the last Sunday of the month, so I’m running a bit late here. Unsurprisingly, getting back to work after a few days off has resulted in some chaos, too.
Life in general…
May has been a month of chaos. Much of my life has revolved around publishing Finding Their Roots and getting ready to travel to Baltimore. On top of that, I am a volunteer with the Buffalo NASFIC committee, and the Albacon committee (our local SFF convention), which took up some time. Then, of course, there’s work. May means Commencement, and the start of summer break (and a lighter number of students on campus, and thus, update time!).
It’s been busy.
On top of that, I finally went to see a spine specialist, and while the news is good (he doesn’t think I’ve done any actual damage to cause the pain I’m in) it means I’m back in PT AGAIN. Sighs. I hate PT? I hate the time. It’s just one more thing, y’know? Add some dental things on top of that and you’ve got a good idea how my life has been. Someday I shall find out what causes my chronic pain. Maybe. If I’m lucky.
Publishing!
As you know, Finding Their Roots went live this month! I’ve had some fantastic reviews, and some not-so-good ones, as is to be expected. If you do pick it up, please consider leaving a review on the major sites (Amazon and other sellers, Goodreads, StoryGraph). That is the best thing any reader can do—help other readers find my work!
If you are interested in getting a copy, you can check out https://www.books2read.com/FindingTheirRoots for links to all major retailers. And don’t forget, there’s a giveaway on both Goodreads and StoryGraph open until June 18th!
I tried to keep up with both WIPWednesday and What I’m Reading Wednesday this month, but struggled toward the end of the month. I did post a Balticon wrap-up on Pillowfort, Tumblr, and Dreamwidth.
No other blogging this past month, unfortunately. I did do a bit of rambling on Bluesky and Mastodon—I’m tryslora there, as usual, if you’re interested in chattering back at me!
Progress, Plans…
I didn’t make any new progress other than staring into space while musing abut both the next Seven Lakes book and the next PHU book. So both of those need to be priorities in June. In fact, setting up a Pacemaker plan (and overall project) for each of those books is a priority this week, once I’ve managed to get things with deadlines (like oh, the newsletter :D ) completed.
Additionally, I’m doing research on review sites for queer romance and queer SFF (that might be interested in cozy paranormal romance) so I can find places to submit FTR to. If you have a favorite site where you find recs, please let me know! I’d love to know, both for finding new things to read and seeing if they can slot in FTR.
Every time I go to a convention, my brain starts spinning on the many various YA novel ideas I have as well. Or other books for adults that I could write. If only I had infinite time, right?
But. Four years (ish) to retirement. I daydream about this, and think about what my day would look like if it were get up… have breakfast and do Japanese lessons… write for a couple hours… do social media & advertising… write some more… go kick things… with some cleaning/chores thrown in for good measure (and possibly other workouts in addition to kicking things, but I truly do love kicking things).
I’m getting there. I can see the full time writing career in my future!
Upcoming Appearances
My next convention will be the Buffalo NASFIC, July 18-21, 2024 in Buffalo, NY. Come see me! I’ll let you know where to find me when I know.
