Tris talks... January Newsletter!

Hey there, everyone!
First off—I hope everyone is warm and safe! I feel like most of the US at least was impacted by weather recently, whether it was ice, the arctic blast, or the more than a foot of snow (or pick two!). Not to mention the chaos occurring all over the country, about which all I am going to say is fuck ICE, because I don’t have the energy to really get into it right now.
Personally, the last few weeks have been a rollercoaster ride, culminating in waking up Sunday morning to the snowstorm starting (we got about 17” by the time it was done) and… realizing we had no heat in our basement (where our cats spend the night, and where my office and kitchen are) and no hot water. And of course, we were far down the list of “no heat” service calls.
I am highly thankful they were able to get a service person to us today. And that my husband was working from home thanks to the aftermath of the storm, so he could coordinate with him and learn how to fix this recurring problem if it happens again. Although, there were parts replaced this time in an attempt to make it not happen again for a while. It did take several hours and a lot of me checking on the guys, seeing their befuddled faces as different things didn’t work, and slowly backing away to let them be…
If anyone is concerned about my cats being too cold, we bought a disposable litter box, moved that and their food into our sunroom, and left the propane fireplace on for them overnight. They were quite toasty warm. But tonight they can go back to happily putting themselves to bed in the basement at 9pm as they usually do.
ANYWAY.
I cannot move on to anything else in this newsletter without the obligatory reminder that the Kickstarter for the Twinned trilogy for Welcome to PHU has started marking time in hours! As of this drafting, there are only 40ish hours left. It is fully funded, and it looks like we’ve made our first stretch goal. Keeping fingers crossed to reach the second!

Things published…
I have continued to struggle to write fiction—I think I’ll be able to launch back into words once the Kickstarter is done and I’ve completed some other prep work for publishing for the year. But I have written a few blog posts!
I began the year with my usual reflection on the past year’s goals and objectives and achievements, then setting some goals.

I spoke a little about politics.
I wrote about why I chose to write PHU as a serialized story rather than drafting and publishing novels more traditionally.
I also did a more informal post about hypermobility and me starting my journey to fixing my body with PT.
Things I am working on…
This hasn’t really changed. I am continuing to slowly (glacially!) move forward on my next books in both the Seven Lakes and PHU universes. I won’t lie—the current state of affairs in this country is wearing on me, as are the frigid weather, chaos at the day job, and well, my body being the achey mess that it is. But I have timelines and plans and if I’m lucky, I can start crossing things off.
Upcoming appearances…
I will be at Boskone in February, but I am not on programming this year. However, you will be able to find me at the Duck Prints Press table for part of the convention, assisting there. I think I might even attend some panels!
I plan to be at Balticon in May, and I hope to be able to participate in programming there. I’m looking forward to it!
In the meantime…
If you’re curious to see snippets as I work, all levels of my Patreon are treated to early chapters of PHU when it is posting, as well as behind-the-scenes looks at works in progress.
And you can find me on social media if you want to chit-chat or just hear me natter on about life, writing, and fandom. I’m tryslora everywhere!
