Tris Talks... February Newsletter

TrisTalksHeader.png

I have a standard layout for this newsletter, and I always start from that template.

The prompt it starts with is “brief overview of life the last month” and… I don’t even know where to start. February has been busy.

I’ll get to the publishing details later, but as you might guess, a lot of my focus this month has been on ensuring that Missed Fortunes is ready to go to the printer. That takes time. So does advertising.

I went to Boskone, which was a blast. I had such a good time there, from the taekwondo to the panels to the kids’ programming to my reading. It was all really awesome. I kept meaning to write up a proper post-con report, but haven’t had time.

At the start of the month, I knew we would have a week off of TKD while our instructor had a vacation, so I declared this to be the month of the movie. We both went to movies in theater, and streamed movies at home, for a total of 6 seen over the four weeks. We also saw two plays at two different theaters (Life of Pi on a tour, and Heathers at our local community theater).

So socially it’s been busy, too.

We’re coming into spring, and some of you know that will bring a new kind of busy in my household as we get our campsite ready. This year it’s even more chaotic since we are moving into a new trailer, and a new site, so there will be a lot to do. I expect that to take over my weekends end of March and into April. Once we’re settled, it’ll be easier to just go and enjoy life on the river.

Anyway, as March starts, I do have a quiet weekend planned where I hope to get some important house fixing done, plus getting my writing plans for the remaining month of the first quarter settled.

Things published…

I’ve already shouted about the newest thing—the pre-order campaign for Missed Fortunes ends today/February 28th. We succeeded and the book will be ordered once it’s ready to go! It’s so PRETTY. OMG, y’all, it’s so nice. Our typesetter does such lovely work, I cannot wait to hold it in my hands. And the cover art. happy sighs I love it. I really love it.

Other than that, I squeezed in two blog posts at the very end of the month (I set a goal to do minimum two and I was damned well going to DO TWO thanks).

Yesterday I posted “Keep Going” about how endings don’t have to be the final stop; they can be a point to start all over again. This is part of life, writing series, Tarot, and taekwondo. This post is available on Pillowfort | Tumblr | Dreamwidth | Website.

Today I posted “It’s the thing I can’t ignore” in which I spoke about how background noise is sometimes background and sometimes not and what that means to me and my ADHD (with the caveat that not everyone’s neurodivergence works the same way). This post is available on Pillowfort | Tumblr | Dreamwidth | Website.

What I’m working on…

Uhhhhhhh. Other than whipping Missed Fortunes into its final shape, I have accomplished very little this month. I tried to post periodic check-ins (posts for mutuals only on Pillowfort and Dreamwidth) and to show up on social media. But in terms of plotting and drafting, I did… nothing.

As I’ve said before, I cannot edit, advertise, and draft all at the same time.

But the one kind of editing is done, and I have some time before I have a ton of ITS editing to do, so I am hopeful to do some drafting. Thus why I have planning to do this weekend! I have one month left to try to accomplish more of this quarter’s goals, and to figure out how to better plan my goals for the 2nd quarter in order to move forward without feeling bad about what’s not getting done.

Fingers crossed, anyway!

What’s coming up…

That said, I will need to get editing done for Into the Split because end of summer we will launch the Kickstarter which will be for the third book of the Twinned trilogy (and of course, there will be packages including the first two books for those who might not have them yet). Plus merch! Yes, the PHU ‘verse will be getting the Duck Prints Press merch treatment and I cannot WAIT to share this with you.

There might be some other fun things, too, but more planning needs to be done. Keep an eye on this space for future information. Or join Patreon for that behind the scenes glimpse periodically. :D

Where I’ll be…

My next official appearance will be at Balticon over Memorial Day  weekend. I’ll let you know when I have my panel schedule!

I will be at Readercon in July, but I will not be on programming at that convention. However, I will be helping Duck Prints Press in the dealers’ room, so please feel free to stop by and see me! And if you want to get anything signed, you will know where to find me. :D

Signing off…

If you’re curious to see snippets as I work, all levels of my Patreon are treated to early chapters of PHU when it is posting, as well as behind-the-scenes looks at works in progress.

And find me on social media if you want to chit-chat or just hear me natter on about life, writing, and fandom. I’m tryslora everywhere!
