October Newsletter
I am not entirely certain how it has come to be the end of October. Like. How? Time is passing by so quickly right now, and it feels like sand slipping through the fingertips. Or maybe water, it rushes by so fast.
Yeah, it’s been one of those months.
We started the month with a mini-vacation in Corning NY, which was pretty cool. We watched our daughter and her husband run a half marathon, then visited the Corning Museum of Glass, and went hiking at Watkins Glen. Well worth the time off!
After that, we rolled through the final weekends of closing our seasonal campsite (if you’ve ever wondered where the inspiration for the Seven Lakes series comes from, well, that’d be it). We’ve been looking at a lot of changes for our campground for next year, too, which has taken up time.
Plus we’ve had social events! So much social time. Our son came home for a long weekend (yay!). We saw Jon Stewart. We saw the pumpkin display at Namkaug (I hope I spelled that correctly) in Stockbridge. I’ve been delving back into photography. I went to Rhinebeck (OOOH YARN). We closed out the month by going to see Kiki’s Delivery Service at the theater (I’d never seen it on the big screen, and I think it’s my first Studio Ghibli movie I ever saw).
November will continue the chaos as we head out for a real vacation, going to Nashville before attending a wedding in Alabama. Is it weird that I’m looking forward to things quieting down as the holidays approach??
Things published…
October was a relatively quiet month.
I drafted a blog post early in the month, then struggled with whether I’d said everything I wanted to say in the manner that I wanted to say it. I am thankful to the friend who read through it and offered advice, and I’ve finally been able to come back to it, edit it, and post it.

In other news, the Kickstarter for the anthology Yay! all queer has launched, and has about a week to go before it ends. If you want to grab a copy of the anthology, which includes my short story “A Bright and Clouded Future” check out the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inkd/yay-all-queer-an-lgbtq-anthology
Progress made and what I’m working on (now and future)…
This month I finally convinced my brain that yes, we could get past the red pen anxiety and work on editing Missed Fortunes for the upcoming Kickstarter for the first PHU trilogy. I am roughly 7/10 of the way through the book at this point, and was hoping to finish this week but I don’t think that will happen.
Once that’s completed, I’ll be rolling straight into editing Into the Split as my editor at Duck Prints Press returns chapters to me.
The catch is, while I’m editing, the drafting brain completely shuts down, so I don’t expect I’ll be making progress on new words for a bit. But. Hopefully we’ll get these much closer to polished, and thus much closer to being able to launch the crowdfunding campaign for them!
Upcoming appearances…
It’s the quiet time, and to be honest, I’m kind of thankful for that. My next convention will be Boskone, which is February 14-16 2025 in Boston. I just filled out the programming survey for the convention, and am hoping to be participating on panels again this year.
After that, I plan to attend Balticon in May, and I’m still working on sorting out the summer schedule.
And that’s it for the month…
If you’re curious to see snippets as I work, all levels of my Patreon are treated to early chapters of PHU when it is posting, as well as behind-the-scenes looks at works in progress.
Come find me on social media if you want to chit-chat or just hear me natter on about life, writing, and fandom. I’m tryslora everywhere!
