June Newsletter - Tris talks!
This newsletter is late, and I’m feeling intensely guilty about that. I know that it is both my fault, and not my fault—by the time I’ve had time to write lately, it’s incredibly late. I lost the last couple of weeks somehow and I’m not entirely sure where they went. I mean, I know some of it, but time appears to be a mystery to me at the moment.
I started drafting this on the 30th while at the kickoff gathering for my new local writing group, but wasn’t able to send it then. I’ve been going flat out, running a marathon at sprinting pace, since then.
This is life, I guess.
I would love to know: when do things slow down? When do I arrive at the end of the month and not look back wondering how it happened so fast, and where I was along the way?
Not this month, that’s for sure.
This is one of those months where almost every day has been scheduled, yet I also managed to get to our seasonal camp three out of five weekends (this is a minor miracle). I saw the Haikyuu! Movie. I went to a craft fair and a small Renaissance festival one weekend. I’ve seen a few other movies with my spouse. I got a root canal (that event was not fun). We saw Beetlejuice (the musical). We held an accidental barbecue dinner party for 8. Oh, and our little local farmers’ market opened, which surprisingly killed off Wednesday evenings (our one evening that’s not TKD during the main week).
I’m… tired rereading that. I also did a bunch of online training and conferences for work, and projects. Not to mention family things which continue to be chaos. Life is chaos. That’s all.
I’d like to think July will be better, but I’ll be heading to Buffalo for NASFIC which is a week and a half out of the month, plus more planning before that, so I doubt it.
I apologize for not being terribly productive. I know I have books to write. I’m hoping to at least finish editing a short story to get out on submission. That’s my goal right after I’m done sending this!
Things published last month…
I did write a blog post!
The post is on Tumblr and Pillowfort, on the topic of learning how to do sentence level editing. This was a huge excitement for me, because I have struggled with editing my whole writing career (yes, since I was like 12…). If you’re interested, take a look.
In business news, I completed giveaways on both StoryGraph and Goodreads. The ebooks won have already been sent, and the physical books will go out this week.
I also signed up to be a part of the July sale at Smashwords. Pick up an ebook copy of Finding Their Roots for 50% off beginning July 1st!
Progress made and what I’m working on…
My primary project for June has been rewriting the story that I wrote the blog post about, and I’m very happy with it after the rewrite. I’ve also done some outlining for both Run Together (the next PHU) and Bound By Denial (the next 7Lakes). And for brand new words, I’ve started a short story as a giveaway to newsletter subscribers! It’ll be an intro to the second 7Lakes book, from an alternate point of view.
Which means, yes, eventually you will be given this short, once it’s been written, edited, and properly produced into ebook form!
Plans for July…
In terms of writing, I want to complete edits on that one short and get it submitted to a market. Plus I want to finish and start working on edits for the 7Lakes short. PLUS I want to get moving on both books since yes, I am rather behind on everything PHU and 7Lakes. Sighs. I’m aware I’m slow these days.
Where will I be in the next few months…?
There is SO MUCH going on these next few months.
Next Sunday (July 7th) I hope to stop in to the Big Gay Market at Washington Park in Albany and help out a bit at the Duck Prints Press table. I will be there first thing in the morning for setup, if you’re looking for me, but need to leave before noon.
I will be at the NASFIC convention in Buffalo July 18th-21st. I’m helping with the convention, so I’ll be there early and staying late, but I’ll also be taking part in programming. Catch up with me if you’re there! Keep an eye on my social media for my programming schedule.
Fandom Fest is in Schenectady NY at Proctors Theater August 10th & 11th. We had a great time last year, and I’m very much looking forward to going again. Yes, Duck Prints Press will be doing another panel, so come on out and meet us!
And finally, Albacon will be in Clifton Park NY in September, from the 13th to 15th, and I will be vending there with Duck Prints and also participating in programming.
It’s a busy summer and yes, it could’ve been more. There are events I could not fit in and still spend time with family and have time at camp.
Oh, and if you’re wondering—while I don’t have as many conventions, the trips won’t slow down in the fall. Whee!
Wish me luck for finding more time to write.
In the meantime…
