Buffalo NASFIC!
Quickie note to say that I’ll be in Buffalo this coming weekend for the NASFIC convention. Hope to see some of you there!
I have five programming events total, including one for children’s programming, my reading, and three panels. You can see my whole schedule online. And if you want to know who else is participating in programming, the whole list is available, with their schedules, too!
The short version of what I’m up to…
Friday July 19th @ 5pm - The Picture Game Writing Workshop
This version of the picture game writing exercise is designed with kids from 5 to 105 in mind. I have plenty of pictures (we won’t all have to write from the same one). We’ll get our pictures, then write for fifteen minutes. Anyone who wants to read their work at the end is welcome to! We want to cheer each other one. Hopefully we’ll be able to do two rounds during our hour.
Saturday July 20th @ 4pm - Diversity in Fiction (also virtual I think)
Let’s talk about how diversity in fiction can be done well! Come to hear about our favorite examples, and thoughts on how to succeed with writing worlds rich in diversity.
Saturday July 20th @ 5pm - Relationships Beyond Romance
This is one of my favorite topics, and I can’t WAIT for this panel. We’re going to talk about relationships that have nothing to do with romance and/or attraction. Found family is one of my bullet-proof tropes, and appears in almost everything I write. I’m very excited to be on a panel exploring all the other relationships in fiction outside of romance.
Saturday July 20th @ 6:30pm - Reading
I’m going to read from my work! I haven’t decided what, and may come in with selections and poll the audience. Options include short stories and snippets from either Finding Their Roots or Commit to the Kick.
Sunday July 21st @ 2pm - Fan Fiction
I mean. Yes? The official description is “what makes it so popular?” but overall, I get to be on a panel talking about fan fiction, and yes, I’m incredibly excited about it. One of my favorite topics.
Of course, I will have a case of books with me, so anyone looking for a hardcopy of a novel or anthology can get it right from me and get it signed! Please help me lighten the car load for going home. :D I’m also weirdly excited to show off my new rolling cart I just picked up for this exact purpose. Is that strange? I can fit lots of books in it AND my knitting and all my cards, snacks, giveaways, and a water bottle (or two). Like, this thing is AWESOME. I’ll probably share pictures on social media. Right now it’s all folded neatly and packed to go (and my cat thinks the stack of cardboard boxes is her bed).
ANYWAY. Short version: Come visit me in Buffalo if you’re around. I’ll try to update on social media throughout the week, but I’ll admit, I’ve been struggling a LOT on social media lately, which is a whole other blog post someday.
