dermografia III - interesting times
Hello again,
There's rebels in the streets. The cathedrals are burning. It's the hottest whatever-it-is on record, again. Hope wherever you are, you're enjoying whatever weather you have. That you get to spend some time in nature, or in concrete, or in whatever environment you need to really feel calm.

I'm close to releasing something I've been working on slowly since last summer - during TF18 I tried as much as I could to snap quick instax photos of artists in the moments after their performances. I wanted to record that changed state - whether it was mess or exhaustion or the energy of the performance - in the space and on their bodies. There's a glimpse of some of the resulting photos in the header image.
Since the festival, I've been building a little zine of these images and it's nearly ready to release into the world (always a scary moment with any creative endeavor. So I'm telling you all here so I have to release it, and can't let myself give into nerves and just hide this little publication at the back of a drawer.) I have always loved zines as a DIY format and am very happy to have finally made one of my own. Need to do some printing and maybe some little layout tweaks but yes, so nearly there...

So many words have been written about Extinction Rebellion in the past few weeks, so I'm going to be utterly shallow and just focus on their fantastic design work. Their posters, fliers, flags and stickers are so striking. There's something interesting here about how a protest is borrowing slick brand aesthetics, in contrast to how it usually goes when brands try to co-opt the look and feel of protest movements.
Anyway, here's an article on the graphic side of XR

We are living in interesting times. The time of the anxiety economy apparently. Here's 2 links to soothe.

I find a few minutes watching the fox cubs on the Wildlife Aid webcams always makes me smile

Stationary compositions is a blog of exactly that. Pens, pencils, other desk items, all organised neatly. Very satisfying.
What's keeping you smiling? Replying to this email comes straight to me if you want to say hi/share links/disagree.
