Transistors Social Calendar

Hi everyone! I hope y'all are having a good start to the year, and are finding your joy wherever and whenever you can! In keeping with that, here's all the Transistors social events that we have on the docket:

  • ½-Price Pizza – Vicki suggested that we start a regular dinner at Sam's Pizza on Gilbert St. on Tuesday nights, because that's half-price pizza night. We've been gathering there informally at 8pm Tuesdays, and would love to see more people there. Rub elbows and share a slice (even though Sam's cuts them into squares)!

  • Pool Party – We have a reservation at the Robert A Lee Rec Center in downtown Iowa City for a pool party on April 15th, from 3:30 to 5:30pm! Please RSVP so we can get a rough headcount of who is interested, as we need to let them know so they can properly staff the lifeguards. And just FYI, we want this to be a safe space for trans people, so while we respect allies in other venues, this isn't really a space for them, unless there is an accessibility concern. As always, do reach out with questions!

  • Self-defense classes – There is a strong general interest in this, though there's a lot to discuss about the logistics. Several people suggested that consent needs to be an intrinsic part of these classes, and I entirely agree. Also, location is a factor, along with curriculum. I'm in contact with both my spouse and the Title IX coordinator at the University, Sara Feldmann; both of whom completed the training program at the SARE center:

So, we're going to try to develop this right. Stay tuned.

  • Pride 2023 – Pride Iowa City is on June 17th, which is always sooner than you think! We'd love to have a presence there, in the parade and maybe a booth. This would absolutely be volunteer only, but if you want to be out-and-proud with fellow Transistors members, let me know.

We also have some future events with no set time or place. Let's discuss the details at one of our Wednesday meetings!

  • Picnic – A general outing in one of the city parks, maybe in May? Potluck, grilling, etc.

  • Hiking – A fun way to get out of your head and into the world, with friends. Where and when?

  • Movie night – There are so many good films, and so many ways to watch them. We could reserve a theater showing (like the pool party), or gather at someone's place.

That's all I have for now, but I hope that gets your gears turning and the joy flowing. See you March 8th. TTFN!
