The State of Iowa

Salutations, everyone. We had 17 people at Transistors last night. That's the most people we've seen at once since our beginning last fall, and while I think the warmer weather has a bit to do with it, I think the ill winds blowing from Des Moines have a lot to do with it as well. So I want to reiterate: You are welcome at Transistors, and we're here for you. And if you can't make the meetings but needs support, please reply to this address and your message will get to us. Coming together as a community is how we bond, strengthen, survive, and grieve. My own feelings are unprintable at the moment, and I imagine you feel similarly. If you want to talk more about these issues, please come to one of our meetings, or contact me over the Signal app at my phone number, below. Meanwhile! We're moving forward with everything we can to promote trans joy and community:

  • Transformations in Cedar Rapids, our sibling organization run by CR PFLAG, has their own roster of celebrations and activities! I strongly urge everyone to check out their survey of possibilities here https://forms.gle/YKCWJtmdSsFrRrDZ8

I personally love the idea of going to the rage room.

  • Our Pool Party is on for Saturday, April 15, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm! It will be at the Robert A Lee Recreation Center in Iowa City, and I'd appreciate people chiming in if they want to go, so we can get a headcount. The number of people attending dictates the number of lifeguards the rec center has to provide. I'll need to know by April 8th.

  • The thrifting event was a huge success, and Transistors want more! We'd like to make the thrift outings a regular event, at least 3-4 times a year, and we'd also like to do some seasonal clothing swaps. Since Spring is technically here, it may be time to do a swap so people can get their spring and summer wardrobes updated! We'll talk more about this at future meetings.

I'd also like to mention that I reached out to United Action for Youth (UAY) in Iowa City, and let them know about our group, so their older members have somewhere to go when they turn 18.

There's a lot to say, but for now, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to Alex for all your work, and thank you to all of you for being there. Reach out when you need support, and please don't be shy about offering support to others.

We exist, we resist, we Transist.
