New Story + June 10 Reading in San Francisco
Happy Pride Month! Work on my (formerly YA) science fiction novel progresses. I’m getting into edits on the recent re-write, which has involved some research into various NASA crew capsules, and some sketching, and some realizing that I might be overthinking this…OR AM I. Please feel free to place bets on whether this novel will be ready to query (again) by my next newsletter. Donate the winnings to Books Not Bans.
New Story “Banded Iron” in the Sunday Morning Transport
I’m extremely excited to announce my latest story, “Banded Iron.” (Yes, it’s a geology story!) I wrote this one for The Sunday Morning Transport, which is a fantastic publication edited by the illustrious Fran Wilde, who gave a talk about names and worldbuilding at Futurescapes 2019 that I’ll never forget. She gave me a link to a 60-day free subscription so you can read it: https://www.sundaymorningtransport.com/smt2024 And if you’re already a subscriber, you can read it here.
June 10: Reading at Happy Endings in San Francisco
Come join us if you’re in the Bay! This will be my third time reading at Happy Endings, one of the coolest series in San Francisco, at the Make-Out Room. The theme this time is bridges burned, lessons learned. 7:15pm, 3225 22nd St.
Recommended Read: Wet Goddess, Recollections of a Dolphin Lover by Malcolm J. Brenner
So, fin fact: my dad wrote a book! And it went kinda viral a few years ago, and for good reason because it’s extremely weird. It’s an autobiographical novel about a 19-year-old New College student who takes on a project photographing dolphins and…like…it’s the 70s, okay? Things take a…turn. Jokes aside, it’s a serious contribution to the ever-louder conversation about why dolphins should never be kept in captivity, and how they’re much more complex than most people realize, both cognitively and emotionally. Plus, Father’s Day is coming up, and I’d love love to give him a little sales boost. It’s (unfortunately) only available online through Amazon, but if you’re in the Bay Area, there’s a few copies at Dod Eared Books on Valencia. Happy Father’s Day, Dad. 🐬
That’s it for now! Keep it real —
