Tomorrow (July 30th) is my fifth and final reading for the month of July, and my third time ever reading at Literary Speakeasy. Martuni’s (4 Valencia St.) is a lovely, vibey, storied San Francisco venue that makes me want to smoke in the rain, flirt with a lounge singer, brush up on my French, maybe join an underground resistance cell. It’ll be a nice little break in the week, so come hang if you’re in the Bay. Doors at 6:30, show at 7.

ConFusion mini-panel on Songs in Story

My story Banded Iron was selected for this anthology, and I’m so excited it’s finding a wider audience! I put a lot of myself into this piece, and while I borrowed from my own experiences as a geology intern at a national park before everything got so hellish in the US, it’s very much meant for our time right now, when science is being defunded and our national parks are being carved up for profit. Recommended project: Matriarchy

Yes, obviously, I’m recommending matriarchy in general as a project society should undertake, but more specifically there is a short film in the works that my friend and fellow solarpunk author Zoe Young has been fundraising for called Matriarchy, and I strongly encourage everyone with the energy to handle an additional kickstarter today (I know, two in one newsletter, fuck) to check it out and do the thing. Zoe is a badass local punk rocker and delightful human and this is exactly the kind of creative project we need more of in the world right now.
