Tkhines Zoom Concert Recap & a hartsikn dank!

Tayere Ale,

What a powerful zoom concert we experienced last week, held together beautifully by so many creative minds and voices 🪬

It was a fargenign/delight to witness newly interpreted anti-imperialist & grief & prayerful Yiddish songs emerge from original yiddish tkhines texts, and to hear the stories behind each songs' conception.

Here is our new soundcloud playlist with the naye tkhines lider/new tkhines songs that cohort 4 just brought into the world. {fyi you can download an mp3 version of each song from the soundcloud for free.} Here is the songbook for you to sing along and learn more about each lid/song.

If you attended the concert, we’d appreciate hearing your feedback and thoughts about your experience here in this form. If you weren’t able to make it, and would like to watch the zoom recording, please reach out to zogtkhines@gmail.com or reply to this email.

A hartsikn dank to all the songwriters from this spring’s cohort who created 1 or 2 incredible new songs!

Mazl tov to Leah, Ariel Shapiro, Ilan Fichman, Olive Ivy, Joanna Letz, Miri Villerius, Khayele Shteynfeld, Eleonore Weill, Noyem Berl, and Maia Brown for experimenting with tkhines, for being in time-travel khevruse/dialogue with each other and our grandmothers and trancestors, and for getting in touch with the melodies and words in your hearts. Thanks for being bold enough to share your tkhines lider with us

🪬

A hartsikn dank / heartfelt thanks to Avi/Avreml Grand and Olha Oliynyk for being our zoom tech support, Corvyn Dotsie for being our CART captioner, and to our ASL interpreters Adra Magidsohn and Breann O'Hara-Johns for carrying us through.

A BIG thanks to freygl gertsovski for holding the logistical back-end details that made the concert happen, spreading the word, and also for being our MC throughout the concert. Thanks so much to freygl and Rad Yiddish for collaborating on this first-ever fundraiser zoom concert <3

We so appreciated all who came to participate: the various individuals, friends, and families zooming in from all over the world, and for sharing encouraging commentary in the chat throughout the concert. Thank you so much for donating and contributing to this collaborative fundraiser. Your support will help sustain two yiddish cultural projects which are anti-imperialist, diasporic, and are disconnected from institutional power/wealth so we can continue doing what we do without censorship. a groysn dank for joining us!

Many of us engage with Yiddish and tkhines as a way to reconnect with the cut-off and almost-lost cultures of our ancestors, some of whom survived genocide. We are devastated by the kidnapping and dehumanizing treatment of undocumented immigrants happening by the hands of our current fascist administration. We are devastated by the various genocides that are taking place across the world, including what is still unfolding in Palestine in the name of Jewish ethno-state-nationalism, which we strongly oppose.
As we engage with Jewish cultural work, we believe in and support the cultural & physical survival of all other peoples.

Our liberation is deeply entwined
