Today’s stories from the Wild West feature”

— an outlaw and his son who attempted to rob a bank in Delta, Colorado, and gunplay ended the lives of three people

— in Baxter County, Arkansas, a 26-year-old gunned down a popular lawman and went on the run for five years

— and a lunchtime argument between a gambler and a mining engineer ended in the death of one of them.

1. Bill McCarty and his son, Fred, marched into the local bank in Delta, Colorado, guns drawn. When the cashier shouted for help, Fred gunned him down. Seconds later, father and son would come face-to-face with .44-caliber justice. “DEADLY MORNING IN DELTA.“

2. A. G. Byler, the first sheriff of Baxter County, Arkansas, served four consecutive terms. At age 63, the popular lawman and legislator was shot to death by a 26-year-old gunman who went on the run for five years. "MANHUNT." 

3. Michael O'Rourke, also known as Johnny-Behind-the-Deuce, got into a lunchtime argument and threatened to kill a mining engineer in Charleston, Arizona Territory, in 1881. The same afternoon, a gunshot rang out, and engineer WP Schneider fell dead. “BACKSHOOTER.”
