One More Sleep Til Triple Sec
Triple Sec is out tomorrow!
This book started as a joke. “Haha, what if I pitched a polyamorous romcom?” But like most creative endeavors, the joke became serious. One minute you’re minding your own business, and the next thing you know you’re highlighting passages from Polysecure and taste-testing your least-favorite spirit in your kitchen at 10am on a Tuesday. Possibly looking up facts about Canada. Almost certainly eating an entire jar of Luxardo cherries. What I mean is, writing this book was a real trip!
If you’ve been with me from the start of my publishing journey, you’ve probably noticed I like tweaking tropes. This time, though, I’m playing with the whole concept of romance and happy endings. It’s still VERY much a romance! The ending is still happy! But this is a different version of what a loving relationship can be. I think we all need more examples of those different versions. I know I do.
Since this is your last day to preorder, that means it’s the last day I can get on my knees and beg you to preorder. I keep seeing this statistic thrown around: only 3% of romance novels are queer. THREE percent. That number must become so vanishingly small for trans & nonbinary romances, no one’s even bothered to calculate it. I hate living under the thumb of capitalism as much as the next person, but the fact is, I rely on you to support the art of queer people kissing on the page. (And doing other stuff, too, but I’ll leave the descriptive language for the paying customers.) If you’re going to spend $18.99 plus tax on something, please consider spending it on a bonkers three-way love story chock full of gays and theys being absolute messes. Also! If you preorder you are still eligible to enter the preorder sweepstakes before midnight tonight. And if you need ‘em, you can find content warnings for Triple Sec at my website. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now let’s go, sluts.
There are plenty of in-person and virtual events for you to come to over the next month to celebrate Triple Sec. If you’re local to Utah, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York City, or Maine, I hope to see you!
This month’s quick book rec is You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian. There was so much of this book that felt bizarrely for me specifically, down to the jar of Luxardo cherries. It’s the story of 1960 New York, a fictional major league baseball team, two guys who really want to kiss, and all the ways we experience loss. I promise you, it’s a sweet, funny, poignant, mature look at grief. And baseball. Which, if you’re a Mets fan like me, is the same f@#$ing thing. Pick it up and you won’t regret it.
That’s all for now! Have a joyful and riotous Pride Month.
