Deal News: we're getting a sequel
Good news, everyone! I’ve got another queer historical romance coming and this one’s for the ladies. The gender nonconforming ladies. Here’s the Official Deal Announcement from Publishers Weekly:
In an exclusive deal, Anna Kaufman at Vintage/Anchor has landed North American rights to TJ Alexander’s A Lady for All Seasons, the LGBTQ+ Regency sequel to A Gentleman’s Gentleman (forthcoming in March 2025). The deal was brokered by Larissa Melo Pienkowski at Jill Grinberg Literary Management. Melo Pienkowski said the book is about “a noblewoman whose lack of dowry and penchant for gossip leads her to plot a marriage of convenience with a very dear, very queer friend. But when a mysterious poetess hints that she is onto their scheme, cheeky hijinks ensue.” The book is set to publish in Spring 2026.
Super secret inside baseball reveal for you newsletter subscribers: I came up with this pitch after listening to this episode of The Allusionist podcast. Take that as you will. Also, a tidbit that did not make it into the PW announcement, I assume because they fear causing a commotion: there will be a cameo by Lord Byron, which, in completely Byronic fashion, is becoming more of a supporting role by the day. The joys of drafting, lolsob.
I’ll keep you posted on updates for A Lady For All Seasons as they come.
Sequels can be a tricky sell so I am once again asking you to please preorder A Gentleman’s Gentleman if you haven’t already. You can also enter the GoodReads giveaway for an advance reading copy. And this giveaway hosted by me and Emma Denny, author of the sapphic knight/lady romance All The Painted Stars, is going until Nov. 5 at 3pm EST.
I’m going to be at the Miami Book Fair later this month. If you’re attending, you can find me at panels and signings on Sunday, November 24 courtesy of Steamy Lit.
