The second
It's been a month since the last newsletter, and I gotta tell you, I was tempted to send one midway. Good news, I did not send it!
A crazy first 30 days
One month ago I would have not imagined how amazing you all are, and that so many of you signed up. This is beyond anything I have ever dreamed of.
Tinylytics just crossed over 150,000 page hits across all 300 and more sites. That just double the amount of sites since the last time I sent you this, and a 3.5 fold increase in page hits – I find it exciting, because this makes it worthwhile for me.
I've been monitoring the server, and it's all looking great with much capacity – which is important to me.
Profitable... wait, what?!
A few weeks ago, on the 2nd of July, I enabled optional payments at $5/month which also unlocks additional stats for hits and kudos, including uptime monitoring (huh?!) for your sites.
The response has been overwhelming and extremely humbling. Since then, 40 people have signed up ❤️ I have no words to describe my gratitude to everyone that did sign up! Thank you.
A subscription allows me to keep working on this for the long run and goes a long way to support my work. Saying that, the project made enough money to replace 1 - 2 days of client work per month 🥳
New stuff. Yes, what!
Date filtering
As it's still all in development, I added some cool new date filtering. Previously this was missing, but added it for anyone that subscribed. If you're not subscribed, it'll always show you 30 days of data.
In general I wanted to keep things simple and native, so I've used no big huge library to just render a date picker. So everything is native to the browser. Also includes some pre-defined options, like "last 7 days" etc. Here is a quick preview:
Uptime monitoring
Another subscriber only feature I've added is the ability to monitor your website for any downtime. It's pretty cool.
It'll check your website every 10 minutes and email you if anything his wrong with your site. It's simple, yet super nice. As a running joke, it basically monitors the Micro.blog and OMG.lol right now 🤣
One other feature I added, just the last day, is the ability to email you when your SSL certificate is about to expire. Handy.
There's also a small status message that you can see on your dashboard if it's up or... down.
It's still early days, so will expand on this as I go.
Oh, and of course you can embed your uptime % to your site. Here are the docs for doing just that.
Other things
I've added details of Kudos to the report emails. And many other things that I'll get into the next issue... because this is getting quite long!
Micro.blog plugins and Themes
If you're using Micro.blog then I have very good news.
If you're using the fantastic Tiny Theme by Matt Langford, then tinylytics is super well integrated already, including stats, hit counters, uptime and shortcodes to use within the theme.
If you're using any other theme, then Jim Mitchell has you covered with his excellent tinylytics plugin, which you can find here. Includes everything you expect including many helpful shortcodes to add to your posts and templates.
Both Jim and Matt, Matt and Jim, have blown me away with this and you should check them both out.
And now...
... it's time to say, thank you for reading! It means a lot.
If you're on the fence about subscribing, please do. It literally makes a huge difference in my life.
I've got more things planned, including a small rejig of the main stats interface, as it's a little cluttered, but that's not quite ready yet. And of course the original feature set that was originally planned.
As always, I always blog about it, and you can find project related posts here on my blog too.
Whilst I want to keep things simple, and JOMO (joy of missing out), feel free to send me any suggestions you might have – I'm all ears.
Until next time.
