Would you help me if I were in crisis? | Tiny Letter, Feb 2025

Dear Friends,

Some of you I know well, and some of you I’ve not seen in years. Some live nearby, and some thousands of miles distant. However, I’m confident that if I were in major distress, I could count on y’all to help. And that support goes both ways. Mutual aid is a precious resource.

Right now, the United States’ institutions, norms, and laws are being trampled, with devastating effects. The Tr*mp administration is currently defying court orders, trying to eliminate the Department of Education, and opening access to the U.S. Treasure Department’s financial systems to Elon Musk’s young coders, among profoundly destructive moves. The president is appointing people based on their loyalty to him, not their credentials or experience. This sets the stage for autocracy.

There’s so much more, but you get the gist.

Our Democracy is in peril.

Will you help save it? I want to keep living in a democracy, one based on laws, not men.

I’m asking for your support. That may be as simple and quick as calling your Senators and Representatives on a regular basis.

Apathy is easy…

Ours is exactly what our present day grifters, robber barons, and sociopaths are counting on. Without a substantial number of Americans pushing back, Tr*mp and co will disregard any and every social norm, law, and agreement they dislike, and the price we pay will be very high. If you’ve been on the sidelines, for whatever reason, now is the time to take action. If you’re already engaged in this fight, thank you.

Start here.

When U.S. Senators get a lot of calls about an issue, it can motivate them to action.

Spend 5 minutes. Make 5 calls. Make your voice heard.

29 concrete actions you can take right now to protect our system of government

Share all this on social media, sure, but try to persuade someone you know personally, directly, to join this fight.

Finally, it should go without saying: this is not a case of ‘Democrats vs. Republicans’, or people simply not liking what this administration is doing. It’s about rule of law, Democracy, and whether we get to keep it.

Regards,

Ben
