Week 15: More CSA Day Deets

Tian Tian Farm Newsletter - September 12, 2024

Logistics
The CSA farm day will go from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, September 28. We recommend catching the 9:25 ferry at the FAUNTLEROY DOCK in West Seattle (people sometimes go to the wrong dock). If you’re walking on, let us know if you’ll need a ride to/from the Vashon ferry terminal to our farm.
We’ll serve lunch and have a cooking demonstration from one our very own community members. We’ll also have a farm tour.
About 17 of you have R.S.V.P’d so far, including guests. It’s not too to sign up if you’d like to join! Just send us an email. Remember, one and two friends and close family are invited too. As we get closer to the date, we’ll have more information! Thank you for your interest.
This Week’s Share:

Komatsuna

Nothing Lasts
Like life and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, every crop on our farm runs its course, and we’re at the beginning of the end for summer veggies. The tomatoes are taking longer to ripen. The cucumber vines are shriveling up. The eggplant is replenishing at a much slower rate. The flash of cold and wet weather has done a real number on our farm. This is also the time of fungus and foul whiffs. Of caterpillars and slugs. Of yellows and browns. Of slimy leaves and miscellaneous goops.
The changes are bittersweet. Our options shrink, but so do our task lists. Fall is around the corner, and with it comes breaking down the farm, seeding cover crop, rain, darkness, and movie nights by the wood stove.
’Til next week,
Steven
