Thursday Bram's Newsletter — May 2022 Edition

I'm finding that this year is going by fast — probably too fast. May is already here. I may have missed sending out a newsletter last month, but I'm just going to blame that on all my Pesach activities and move on.

Covering Oregon's primary

PDX.Vote survived its first election! Since my last newsletter, I published articles from two new writers, put together a massive voter recommendation guide, and wrote a few articles.

I'm going to take a little time off of updating the site, but I expect to start up again in early June.

Discussing campaign finance

Portland from the Left had me back on the podcast to discuss how campaign finance works in Oregon. I had a lot to say (I know, such a surprise), so they broke our discussion into two episodes. Both Part 1 and Part 2 are now up!

A few thoughts on who local codes apply to

After watching a short documentary about an apartment complex in Portland that practices regenerative agriculture, I put together a Twitter thread about how the apartment complex's owner handled local codes and who has to deal with code enforcement.

Other updates

  • I'm now officially a notary, according to the State of Oregon! I mainly pursued getting my commission to make some of my volunteer work easier, but I'm excited to be able to stamp all sorts of things.

  • I managed to get back my first reimbursement from an insurer for at-home COVID-19 tests. It only took me three months, switching insurers, and a couple of hours of unpaid labor. I keep considering writing an article about the process, but I haven't figured out who really wants that sort of thing.

Links to other folk's work

One of my favorite subscriptions is to the Jewish Zine Archive. Each zine I've received has gotten me thinking about facets of Judaism I hadn't really considered before. The idea of a tea mikveh now lives in my mind.
