Thursday Bram's Newsletter — March 2022 Edition

This last month has been pretty hard, both on global and local levels. I hope you're all taking care of yourself out there.

Covering local politics

As part of covering Portland politics, I wrote two pieces about the mass shooting at a protest here in late February. Please note that both of these pieces have strong content warnings for violence and death. Here are the articles: One protestor killed, at least five wounded and Update on mass shooting at Normandale Park.

A Purim unicorn chaser

Over the weekend, we made hamentaschen. Since Purim and St. Patrick's Day overlap this year and I've got a smidge of Irish Catholic heritage, we made a batch with green dough. We used matcha, going off of Kristin Eriko Posner's recipe, though we did our own fillings (some are poppy seed, some are raspberry, and some are orange.)

I haven't shared these elsewhere, so y'all get a sneak peek!

Quick sale — remaining print copies of A Haggadah of Our Own

Interested in picking up a printed copy of A Haggadah of Our Own? Well, I've decided not to do another print run this year — but I do still have thirty copies left over from the initial print run. I've popped them up in my shop for sale and will ship them out in time for this year's seder. When these copies are gone, though, they're gone, so make your purchase ASAP.

Other posts and updates

  • I'm still looking for contributors for PDX.Vote. Here's a thread on what I'm looking for.. It also covers pay rates and how to submit pitches!

  • I've been on Twitter for 15 years. How is that even possible?

  • I got a 95% on my notary public exam. I'm not quite finished with the process, but it's been a while since I've taken a test and I'm proud to know that I've still got decent study skills!

Links to other folk's work

Power and Magic Press, which publishes amazing comics collections from queer creators and creators of color, is offering free digital downloads from their shop for folks donating directly to support trans youth in Texas. All of their collections are amazing, although I'm currently especially in love with Mañana: Latinx Comics From The 25th Century. So, donate some money and then settle down with some beautiful comics.
