this occasional society october newsletter

bonjour mes amis

this occasional society update

The debut gig went well. Thanks to everyone who came along. I’ll be taking part in the gravitons livestream festival in November (more on that below) and I’m working on remixes for various good folks and trying to incorporate a few bits of hardware into my workflow.

This month’s music sketch here if you want to check it out.

the next newsletter will be with you 11.11. as ever, if you want anything included in the ‘updates from friends of the society’ section, just let us know.

updates from friends of the society

first off, an apology - I should have included details of Intent Unknown’s release Le Serpent Rouge Pt1 last month - it’s an intriguing mix of spoken word, a translation of a french occult pamphlet, and ambient - well work checking out.

Solar Phasing recently released The Serenity Path, blissful and new-agey - there’s a 50% discount until the end of october with the code “autumnleaves" - although their discography is an absolute bargain anyway.

Textural loveliness abounds, as Season Six of Strange Textures podcast is rolling too. We’re all going to be very relaxed at this rate.

Mycro Cozm has a great track (no.111) on the mammoth 170 track Carebot$ compilation raising funds for medial aid for Palestinians and Gaza Soup Kitchen.

There’s another installment of Lincolnshire dialect larks with gribbles - as then so now - has a wistful air that, as ever, perfectly suits the archival voices it showcases and celebrates.

If you are a music artist, Untidy Radio, an online station that will feature no monetisation or adverts, are looking for submissions.

Levitation, the annual festival of the great Castles in Space record label, is 1 November in Capstone Theatre, Liverpool. Acts include Field Lines Cartographer, Lo Five and Loula Yorke, amongst others.

Finally, as mentioned above, gravitons festival is back - the experimental livestream festival made with ethical alternatives to big tech, will be running November-ish - all the details will be on their website.

a.o.b. - things that have replenished our creative wellspring recently

I keep coming back to The Bear by Hello Midlands - a really great piece of wonky pop.

In terms of reading, I’ve seen a few people share this piece from Kate Schellenbach about being a member of Beastie Boys 1980s NY - and rightly so - its fab.
