this occasional society - oct '26 newsletter

hello, hello, how lovely to see you.
this occasional society update
Thanks to everyone who came out to the gigs in Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Southampton. Great fun was had. Next up is Gravitons online festival 7 - 12 Nov. More details below.
I was pleased to contribute to the compilation album accompanying Means Magazine Grassroots issue. It felt like a great fit for the issue and the magazine is great.
I’m also delighted to have a track on the upcoming The Synthesis Co-op Volume 2 Compilation, out on Bandcamp 6 Nov. It’s chock full of bangers from the likes of Fingerwolf, Autumna, M-Corp and Traindeer.

I’ve played this month’s WIP track at a few gigs, but I still don’t think it’s finished. Anyway here it is.
the next newsletter will be with you on 11.11.
as ever, if you want anything included in the ‘updates from friends of the society’ section, just let us know.

updates from friends of the society
The NHAM ‘in concert’ for October is blues-punka Dr Deathray on 15 October. You can put it in your calendar from here.
The 3rd W3dn35day online gig is C2 bringing the dark disco on 21 Oct. All the details and a calendar reminder here.
It’s been confirmed that there will be 18 labels at the free market event in the afternoon of the Moonbuilding / CIS event on 1 November in London. The evening gig Danalogue, Field Lines Cartographer and Loula Yorke is set to be a cracker as well.
Also in London, Noise Table #2 is at Walthamstow Trades on 28 October and will feature sets from Furrowed & Colin Webster, Hannah Dargavel-Leafe and Karina Townsend.
Down closer to my neck of the wood and of a distinctly heavier electronic flavour, Southampton / London industrial post-metallers Sunswarm are on the lineup for an evening of industrial hardcore on 29 Oct at Kola in Portsmouth
Sine Waves on Sunday radio show for the month ahead will include celebrations of Throbbing Gristle at 50, 25 years of Drukqs by Aphex Twin, a session from the great Drone in the Woods recorded in a woods, marking a year of SWoS live sessions with some highlights from the sessions (including yours truly) and a show dedicated to highlights from recent Bournemouth EMOMs.
Now available on Bandcamp, Motherboard Rare Earths by Bit Cloudy is a new half hour sound art piece originally produced for eight speakers. It was commissioned for an installation among some trees at the Krankenhaus Festival 2026 but sounds just as great as a standalone soundscape.
Gravitons Online Festival will be running from 7 - 12 November. It’ll be an eclectic mix of experimental and electronic music artists you can enjoy from wherever you are. Already confirmed are Meljoann, Remember Glaciers and Rashamon. Keep an eye on the website and calendar for more info.
I very much enjoyed the dark dungeoney folky ambience of Veilleurs de Nuit by Vermis Fugit. It has an owl on the cover too - but is it Ambient Owl Core? I think it might be.
Finally, the excellently titled ‘Rewild the dancefloor’, debut album from alt-electronica act Someday, Sky is out on 21 Oct.

aob - things that have replenished our creative wellspring recently
Means Magazine has been a great and inspiring read and I really am enjoying seeing the green parakeets and little egret in the park on my walk to work.
Until next month me ducks.
