another quiet month on the creative front for the society although a few things are brewing in the background.
here is your exclusive ‘unvarnished, work in progress, music sketch’.
the next newsletter will be with you 5.5. as ever, if you want anything included in the ‘updates from friends of the society’ section, just let us know.
updates from friends of the society
status - the new album by brighton based hyperjacker meljoann has been out for a few weeks and it’s a certified banger. it reminds the society of Prince, which, y’know, is a pretty massive compliment.
the wonderful and very friendly, Kristoffer Lislegaard supported Autechre in September and is doing a watch party and album release of the live recording on Sunday 6 April. Join the livestream here.
Speaking of live gigs, another Brighton artist, BUNKR is playing at Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms on 17 April. Expect top notch electronica, ambient & melodic techno, all for the very reasonable price of £10. Tickets here.
Meanwhile, down the road in southampton, Music In The City are looking for artists from the locality for their festival 13/14 September. Word on the street is that there’ll be at least a handful of electronic artists as part of the line up this year - if you are local and want to apply and swell their numbers….
internet radio station, audiointerface.org make regular appearances in the newsletter, but, when they keep putting out excellent new shows like The Abyssal Zone, Transverse Tempo and the NHAM Mixtapes, as well as great new guest mixes, is it any wonder.
I wonder are Audio Interface and Moolakii Club Audio Interface aware of each other? Anyway, MCAI, the DIY nano label, launchpad and music hub for peripheral and underground experimental electronica, has a weekender 14/15 June in Birkenhead. The lineup is great, including Polypores, HDRF, Subphotic and more and the tickets are less than £25 for the weekend, so….we’ll see you there yeah.
a.o.b. - things that have replenished our creative wellspring recently
There’s not much new in this compact little Wendy Carlos intro from Resident Advisor, but if the name is new to you, then watch here.
RA have also shared this great interview with another fantastic pioneer of electronic music, Suzanne Cianni. It’s a very inspiring read.
Despite being a fan of the music of Kayla Painter for a while now, I only recently realised she has a monthly show, Connections to Sound, on Resonance Extra. It is, of course, fantastic - although there is a point fast approaching where there won’t be enough hours in the day to listen to all these great radio shows.
Finally, I have enjoyed and been quietly moved by the radio abridged version of Maybe I’m Amazed by John Harris, read by the author. It’s about parenting, neurodiversity and the love of music, and is well worth just over an hour of your time.
