Ryker Jun Eagles No. 16, Rallies to Repeat as 4A District Golf Champ
Camas junior Ryker Jun saved his best golf for when it mattered most. Trailing late in Tuesday's 4A district tournament at Lewis River Golf Club, Jun dropped an eagle on the par-5 16th hole to spark a furious comeback β edging Skyview's Graham Vilhauer by a single stroke for his second consecutive district title. That's the kind of clutch finish that earns a reputation, and Jun is building one fast. Full story from The Columbian.
Union's Michael Ofuasia Grinds Past Camas, Sets Sights on District Tennis
Union junior Michael Ofuasia sent a message to the rest of the 4A field on Tuesday with a hard-fought singles win over Camas. The victory is well-timed: the 4A District 4 tennis tournament heads to Club Green Meadows next weekend, and Ofuasia looks primed to make a deep run. If you're tracking Clark County athletes to watch this postseason, put his name on the list. Read more at The Columbian.
Kelso Freshman Brenden Cogburn Wins 3A Golf District With Steady Play
Sometimes boring is beautiful. Kelso freshman Brenden Cogburn kept his round clean and uneventful β no fireworks, just smart, consistent golf β and that was more than enough to claim the 3A boys district title on Tuesday. As a ninth-grader already collecting district hardware, Cogburn has three more years to pile up wins, which should make the rest of the region nervous. Details from The Columbian.
Camas Volleyball Pushes Kelso to Five Sets in Top-10 Showdown
Camas hosted a top-10 nonleague volleyball clash Tuesday night and gave No. 1-ranked Kelso everything it could handle before falling in five sets, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-3. Kelso's Maali Amrine was dominant with 17 kills and 12 digs, while Camas' Cora Moore and Charlie Philips combined for 15 kills to keep the Papermakers in the fight. A five-set battle against the state's top team is the kind of postseason prep that pays dividends come November. Recap at The Columbian.
Clark College Penguins Drop Two Volleyball Matches at Home
It was a tough week on the hardwood for the Clark College Penguins, who fell in both home volleyball matches. The Penguins are working through a rebuilding stretch, but home-court experience against conference competition should sharpen the squad as the second half of the NWAC season unfolds.
