📰 What's Making News

Lotic Beverage Company Builds a Hangout, Not Just a Taproom

If you haven't popped into Lotic Beverage Company yet, owner Matthew Kiser wants to change that — and he's betting on couches, board games, and a laid-back atmosphere to do it. Kiser says the family-friendly spot is modeled after a college memory: grabbing a cold one from a friend's garage fridge and settling into the living room. The result is a beverage company that feels less like a bar and more like your coolest neighbor's house. It's exactly the kind of homegrown concept that makes Vancouver's food-and-drink scene its own thing. Full story from The Columbian.

Dr. Brianna da Silva Bhatia Steps In as Interim Health Officer

Clark County has a new face leading public health — at least for now. The County Council appointed Dr. Brianna da Silva Bhatia, the current deputy health officer, to serve as interim health officer following the departure of longtime leader Dr. Alan Melnick. Da Silva Bhatia steps into a role that touches everything from restaurant inspections to community wellness programs. The search for a permanent replacement is expected to follow, but for the moment, continuity is the priority. Read more at The Columbian.

Property Value Questions? County Equalization Board Needs You

Clark County is looking for residents willing to serve on its Board of Equalization, the volunteer panel that hears appeals when property owners disagree with their assessed values. If you've ever wondered how those numbers on your assessment notice get decided — or challenged — this is your behind-the-curtain look. Applicants don't need a real estate background, just a willingness to review evidence and make fair calls. It's a low-key but genuinely impactful way to serve your community. Details from The Columbian.
