Columbia River Sweeps Singles, Doubles, Team Titles at 2A Districts
A clean sweep doesn't happen often, but Columbia River's girls tennis program just pulled one off. Jenny Serebriakova claimed the 2A district singles championship with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over W.F. West's Elizabeth Mittge at Mint Valley Tennis Center in Longview on Saturday, and her teammates matched the energy by taking the doubles and team titles, too. Serebriakova heads back to the state tournament as district champion β and she's bringing company. Read more from The Columbian.
Skyview Softball Punches Return Ticket to Defend State Crown
The defending 4A state champion Skyview Storm aren't done yet. After navigating a rain-delayed 4A bi-district tournament, Skyview survived and advanced to earn another shot at the title. It's the kind of gritty, nothing-comes-easy run that tends to sharpen a team heading into the biggest games of the year. Expect this squad to arrive at state with something to prove β again. Full story here.
Seton Catholic Bats Erupt in Consolation Round, Earn State Berth
Shutout in the district semifinals, the Seton Catholic softball team could have folded. Instead, the Cougars came roaring back through the consolation bracket with a pair of blowout wins to claim third place and clinch a berth in the 1A state tournament. Sometimes the best stories start with a setback. Read the full recap.
King's Way Christian Captures 1A Soccer Title; Fort Earns Third
King's Way Christian shut out Raymond 2-0 on Saturday to win the 1A District 4 boys soccer championship β a statement performance from a program that keeps raising its profile. Fort Vancouver also had a strong showing, edging La Center 1-0 to secure third place. Two Clark County schools heading to state from the same bracket is a good day for local soccer. Details from The Columbian.
Heartbreaker for Columbia River Baseball: Tumwater Walks Off 1-0
Columbia River came within an out of forcing extras in the 2A District 4 championship game, but a wild sequence undid the effort. Tumwater's Charlie Crawford tripled to right field with one out in the bottom of the seventh, then scrambled home when the throw into third got away from the Rapids. The 1-0 loss stings, but Columbia River's season isn't over β the Rapids still have a path to state. Read the full game story.
