This episode of 99% invisible about the cassette tape culture around the Grateful Dead was pretty neat. It also reminded me of all the GoGo tapes that I used to be able to get my hands on as a kid growing up in the suburbs just outside DC. I started thinking; if a little white kid from the burbs could get tapes, the DC Gogo tape culture must have been strong! Google confirmed my hypothesis. I wonder if there were any other hyper local tape cultures in the 80s/90s?
