Pumper, Firefighting

1. A firefighting vehicle of formidable heft, equipped with a water pump and hose, primarily used to combat fires; esp. one whose posterior, viewed astern, defies casual description.

2. colloq. The architectural masterpiece of emergency response, unapologetically occupying the entirety of a suburban intersection.

Etymology. From pump (Middle English 'pompe') + -er (agent noun suffix), with 'firefighting' attached to delineate its noble purpose. Its thicccness, however, was simply a happy accident.

When it rolled through the intersection, the thiccc firefighting pumper made every sedan feel like an afterthought.
