Orca, Killer Whale

1. A marine mammal of imposing mass, often distinguished by its contrasting black and white coloration and formidable girth, especially when observed astern in raking light.

2. colloq. The apex of aquatic thicccness, refusing to be relegated to mere background fauna.

Etymology. From Latin Orcinus orca, meaning 'belonging to Orcus' (the god of the underworld), as if naming it after a mythical abyss was somehow reassuring.

The aquarium's new thiccc orca swam past the viewing window, blocking out the sun like a living eclipse.
