Etymology. From Greek hydor (water) + Latin exaere (to remove), a term ironically applied to machines that prefer dirt. Named 'large bucket' due to its subtlety in comparisons.

The thiccc hydraulic excavator swung its bucket with the grace of a ballerina and the ambition of an open-pit mine. The cul-de-sac was now an amphitheater.
