Celebrating Seven Years of The Xylom
It's no accident that we're taking root where the battles are the hardest
Dear Reader,
We did it! Seven years of The Xylom, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
This past year, we saw the news industry plunge deeper into its existential crisis, to the point that America now has fewer journalists than coal miners (Just this week, our colleagues at yes! Magazine announced their closure after nearly three decades of solutions journalism.) Yet, because of our commitment to seeking the truth and complicating the narrative, we did what few other newsrooms have done: sustained growth and impact.
As I look out from my window and see thunderstorms rolling through downtown Atlanta this weekend, I know the only way to endure these headwinds is by leaning on our global community of contributors, readers, and allies.
To help us crack the seven-year itch, here are two things I humbly ask you to get involved:
Fill out our Annual Audience Survey to help us understand who you are, why you engage with the news, and how we can be a part of your lives. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and we will randomly select two recipients to get a $50 gift card!
Give $7 (or a multiple of seven!) towards our AANHPI Heritage Month fundraiser for our newsroom intern Jinger Zhang, who joins us from the CUNY Newmark J-School in June.
Thank you so much for putting your faith in us, and I can’t wait to see how we can continue growing science with words!
With gratitude,

Alex Ip
