Canterbury Snow Outlook — a cluster of low chances in the back half

Canterbury Snow Outlook

The 14-day picture — the days worth watching.

Issued Tuesday 16 June 2026, 09:22 NZST · Outlook period next 14 days

Today carries the best snow signal in the window — a low chance, but the strongest on offer.

Today is the one day where the signal has some shape to it. Forecast guidance puts a low chance of snow on the hills — around 17%, with some runs nudging toward 22% — and a small chance it reaches the plains. That is still firmly the minority outcome, but it has been firming across the last several runs, so it is worth keeping half an eye on if you have work in the high country today. The Canterbury Snow Forecast has the detail.

Tomorrow through Saturday is quiet, with nothing worth flagging.

From Sunday onward, a cluster of low-chance days runs through the back half of the fortnight — Sunday, next Tuesday, next Thursday, next Friday, and next Saturday all carry watch flags. None of them are strong signals; chances sit in the single digits to low teens across all of those days. What is notable is the persistence of the pattern rather than any one standout day. At this range the guidance is indicative at best, but it is enough to keep that stretch on the radar, particularly for anyone planning work or travel in the hills late next week.

The next Canterbury Snow Outlook goes out on Monday 22 June, or sooner if the picture changes. If a snow event moves within three days, paid subscribers also receive the detailed Canterbury Snow Forecast — the town-by-town, pass-by-pass picture.
