The Valuable Dev - fzf Shell Integration
Tuesday Greetings, Valuable Developer
Hope everything’s going well on your side!
The last two months have been a bit slower for my side projects; I just have less time to write both for The Valuable Dev and my next book, Learning to Play Vim.
Speaking about The Valuable Dev, I’ve published this month the second part of a series of articles about fzf. More precisely, we’ll dive deep into fzf’s shell integration (Bash or Zsh):
A Practical Guide to fzf: Shell integration
The CLI fzf can greatly improve our shell experience by searching any file, directory, or anything else you want, using simple keystrokes or completion.
Mouseless
Here’s a curated selection of CLIs I found interesting:
- passlane is a password manager synchronized with an online vault. It has a web interface as well as a CLI.
- I really like syncthing: it lets us synchronize files between different machines. I use it to synchronize my whole

directory between my personal and my work computer. - ripdrag lets you drag and drop files from and to the terminal.
- Are you annoyed by typos in your source code? The CLI typos can fix spelling mistakes in your codebase.
Book
Creativity is fascinating to me. I’ve read quite some books on the subject; here are the best ones:
- The Creative Habit propose very high level strategies to be creative. An interesting book by an interesting author.
- Think like an artist has many quotes, insights, and reflections about art and creativity in general.
- Steal like an artist is a short but insightful book. It will make your think about creativity for sure!
