The Valuable Dev - A Practical Guide of GNU grep With Examples
Tuesday Greetings, Valuable Developer
I hope you're doing well!
Unfortunately, it's the first newsletter since August, simply because I didn't publish anything for The Valuable Dev until now. My free time is more and more limited, and I use a big part of it to work on my book Learning to Play Vim.
This month we're looking at fzf again, and more specifically how we can use it directly in Vim (or Neovim).
A Practical Guide to fzf: Vim Integration
The CLI fzf is not only useful in the shell: it's also a great tool to use directly in Vim (or Neovim), to search for specific files for example.
Updates
As I was saying above, my focus is on the book I'm writing, Learning to Play Vim. That's why I don't publish an article every month on The Valuable Dev anymore. That said, when this book will be done (hopefully the first quarter of next year), my focus will shift back to The Valuable Dev again.
Meanwhile, don't hesitate to send me the topics you would like covered on The Valuable Dev! The reply button is only one click away.
Mouseless
Here are some tools I found interesting:
- Systeroid is an interesting alternative to sysctl.
- If you want to manage your bluetooth devices using a simple TUI, bluetuith might be of interest for you.
- I use kanban boards in the terminal for all my projects; something similar to boards.
- The CLI eza is yet another replacement for
ls
. - Absolutely useless and therefore mandatory, pond allow you to have a... pond in your terminal, with frogs and such.
Book
I'm almost at the end of Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution. The first part of the book is really good, following the path of the first computer addicts who had access to the first interactive computers, like the PDP series. The second part is more about hardware and the rise of the PC (and still very interesting), and the third part is about video games (more specifically about the now defunct Sierra).
It's more about the history of computing than hacking in the sense of "genius-with-a-hoody-hacking-the-pentagone". So if you're interested in that, I would definitely recommend it.
