#023 - Kill Chain (2019)
Hello and welcome to my weblog. Last night I watched Kill Chain (2019).
Cleverness is a trap; tattoo this backwards on my forehead and fill my home with mirrors. In trying to make something clever, nine times out of ten I just make it harder to understand. Wile E. Coyote is clever; cleverness is ordering anvils and roller skates from the Acme catalog instead of just ordering dog food.
In this movie, Nicholas Cage plays a hotelier who used to be some sort of assassin and whose enemies all die in the span of a couple hours one evening in a cascade of seemingly random shoot outs. I was going to say that he gets revenge but in most cases, it’s hard to tell whether what transpires is the result of intricate planning or just a coincidence. This movie isn’t complicated but it is incredibly hard to follow because it aspires to be more than just a cheap action movie. It wants to be something clever.
