A Look Back at 100 Notable Sandwiches

Welcome back to Notable Sandwiches, the series where Talia and I wade through the bizarro, shifting sands of Wikipedia’s List of Notable Sandwiches, in alphabetical order. This week, a 100th sandwich retrospective.
As Talia has described it in the past, Wikipedia’s list of notable sandwiches is “befuddling”, “bonkers”, “marvelous”, “extraordinary”, “mysterious”, “bizarre”, “profoundly odd”, “ever-shifting”, “ever-mutating”, “ever-evolving”, “strange and twisted”, “sprawling, mammoth”, “enormous and unwieldy”, “baffling and mercurial”, “baroque and mysterious.” So, to commemorate having completed our first one hundred entries, I thought it might be fun to break the list down by the numbers. Since we began this project in October, 2021, three sandwiches have dropped off the list entirely: the British Rail sandwich, the Caviar sandwich and the Canadian Hot Chicken. Meanwhile, the list has seven new entries between “American Hero" and “Kaisers Jagdproviant”: Antipasto, Bifana, Bokit, Bulkie Roll, Camel rider, Conti Roll, and Gilgeori Toast. Don’t worry, we’ll come back to those once we’ve made it through the list once. Who knows how much it will have changed by the time we get to Poland’s Zapiekanka.
