Are you in or around Richmond, CA? I’m teaching an illustration workshop starting in October! 4 meetings, we’ll find those moments to illustrate that really bring a story to life. Lots of prompts! Find the info and sign up here, It’s called “The Magic of Illustration: Making Stories Visual”

A Tiny Drawing Lesson
I like to start my workshops off with this:
1. Don’t use any words, faces, or objects.
2. Think about this word: ANGRY
3. Take a pencil or pen and paper, and make some marks and shapes that feel like they express that word. Really feel it!
4. Now, change the word to: SILLY
5. Do it again, make marks and shapes that express Silly. Remember, no words or objects or faces. Just shapes and lines and marks.
6. Take a look at the two - what is different? How do some lines and shapes look “angry” and others look “silly?”
This is an example of visual language, which you made up yourself! Try some other words. How do you think this affects how you see the world? Do some things look more angry or silly?
Okay! That's enough nonsense for now.
May you look around, may you be upside down or right-side up depending on your preference, won't you be my neighbor? - Betsy
