Ten-Year-Old Toast
"Wherever we go, we are friends" -Sloth and Manatee
Today is the tenth birthday of this piece of toast:
Which I made when Bridgett Spicer and Alex Schumacher and I were sharing a table at the Big Wow comic con in San Jose in 2014. We had become very punchy (cons are tiring) and started yelling “TOAST!” at people which did not sell a lot of comics. The toast then accompanied us to more cons and became a bit of a celebrity in its own right:
So happy tenth toast birthday to you, may peculiar things you have done with friends be on your mind today.
Get these stickers to place strategically wherever you most need them
Funny story: The printer got this order, and mistook the caption for the subject of an email and proceeded to LEAVE THE PERSON ALONE which means that these are road tested and Really Work! What a testimonial.
Very short run made, going quick, get em here
I am reading
“Doppelganger” by Naomi Klein, in which she goes way beyond the story of her never-ending problems being mixed up with Naomi Wolf, she writes about duality and shadow worlds and shadow selves and how all this is an escape and a reflection at the same time. Another piece on this is this one by George Monbiot, in which he says many people “get the feelings right, but the facts wrong.” We all construct realities that give us a sense of agency and belonging, and that’s true for artists as well. We’re all doing it in our own ways.
May you do something goofy with friends, may you dance like a dancing bear, won't you be my neighbor? -Betsy
