On Giving a Sh*t
"Wherever we go, we are friends" -Sloth and Manatee
Sloth and Manatee
A couple pages from the first Sloth and Manatee book:

How do I care for them all?
To me this feels like the Big Question of our age. We have in the blink of an eye gone from divisions by demographics or parties or what-have-you, to giving a sh*t vs. not giving a sh*t.
Not giving a sh*t has been winning out lately. It has gotten a grip on our idea of power. It has told us that giving a sh*t is uncool or cringe or weak. Real power isn’t caring. Real power is aggression and winning.
This is incorrect.
Giving a sh*t requires much more strength than not.
Giving a sh*t is scary and gives you a vulnerability. It puts you in proximity to the world in a way that can be difficult and complicated. Maybe there’s trauma. Maybe there’s blind spots. But the people who actually get anything done or create anything, do so out of giving a sh*t. About something. The cat. Your grandma. A patch of land. The library. Cancer research. Bugs. A foreign language. A particular tree. A Funko Pop collection. A particular way of folding socks.
This is how the revolution comes. All the people everywhere giving a sh*t about whatever they give a sh*t about. And saying, we want to live in a world that gives a sh*t. I already see this reshuffling things, people coming out into space together, saying they care. I care. Let’s care.
