On Being Confused

"Wherever we go, we are friends" -Sloth and Manatee

And also confusing other people

Have you ever encountered some kind of art or song or something and thought - maybe you liked it, but maybe you didn’t? Or maybe you came across this thing a long time ago and at the time you didn’t like it, but now you think it’s great?

Have you been in a museum and seen an exhibit and thought maybe you missed the whole point of what is supposed to be going on? Do you have certain bands whose music just makes you feel weird or moody for no reason?

Do you ever like a food and eat it every day and then one day you’re just sick of it and don’t want to look at it any more?

Maybe you write a first draft of something and it is absolutely terrible but then you are glad you wrote it because now you have a first draft of something. Or maybe you hum a bit of a song idea into your phone, and later you haven’t got any idea what the heck that was supposed to be, but then it touches off some other idea.

When I used to draw Brainwaves cartoons six days a week, I kept pads of paper everywhere to capture cartoon ideas, and sometimes I would write them in the dark at night, and in the morning the cross for the t would be on the wrong part of the paper floating out in space, and maybe I could read what I wrote or maybe not, and sometimes the idea was so stupid and other times it was one word and I knew exactly what I meant. Or it was in fact a very stupid idea, but also the greatest idea and I used it and some people just looked at it blankly and others framed it and put it in their house.

Sometimes the best answer is no answer, or more than one answer, or you say one thing one minute and then later, after lunch when you are walking down the street and the clouds are closing in and it feels like rain, you say the exact opposite.

Isn’t it marvelous that we can be more than one way at once, and we can make one decision and later we can decide something else, and that we can feel more than one way about things, and so can our friends and relations.

The kids in the afterschool class are drawing rockets a lot currently

Things Of The Week

These images of analog control panels are so satisfying. Everything should go back to being this way. Open an email by turning a dial.

Maybe I’ve shared this before but listening to the sounds of a hard disk being defragmented is just lovely.

Play music based on what’s in an image.

Featured Thing

It is Baphonaut.

Okay! That's enough nonsense for now.
